Public Health Offers School Vaccinations

Georgia law requires children attending daycare or school to be protected from certain vaccine-preventable diseases. Cobb & Douglas Public Health offer vaccines to protect children and prepare them for school at clinics throughout both counties.

According to the law, parents who move to Georgia from another state and enroll their child in a Georgia school for the first time must provide the child's daycare center or school with a Certificate of Immunization (Form # 3231) within 30 days of enrollment. This certificate verifies that the child has received the immunizations recommended for his/her age.

Parents can obtain this certificate from the child's private physician or local Cobb & Douglas Public Health Center. Parents should bring a complete record of the child's immunizations in order to complete the certificate.

Marietta City schools start August 12, 2010. Cobb and Douglas County schools start August 5, 2010.

If a child needs additional immunizations to meet the requirements of Georgia law, the private physician or Public Health Center staff can administer these immunizations, and parents can obtain a certificate at the same time.

Immunizations are offered on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at most Public Health Centers in Cobb and Douglas counties. No appointments are needed, however, during high volume times we may need to suspend this service temporarily. The best times to walk in are early in the morning or around noon. Vaccines are provided to recipients of Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids. For those with no health insurance or health insurance that does not cover vaccines, immunizations are offered on a sliding fee scale. Clients who have health insurance that covers immunizations are encouraged to receive their vaccines at their primary care provider's office, which can bill the insurance carrier for the immunizations. Clients who have health insurance that covers vaccines and choose to receive immunizations at one of our Health Centers will be charged full fee.
